14901 started for myself and Chris Baily whilst on a return journey to Rowsley in March.

This is an replacement exhauster for D8233 (one of two). The motor has been stripped, painted internally with special anti-track paint and rebuilt. I went along to help and the video is the sum of many days work to get the motor working at 110 volts. The exhauster is part of the brake system on the locomotive, it creates a vacuum within the brake pipe system and when air is allowed in it destro...

After the first start up we had to make checks and adjustments to make sure everything was present and correct.

Thanks Andy. These loco's were used for freight workings in the main, due to the lack of train heat they rarely got passenger work.
I love this bit where an Unseen Les Tappenden (on the other side of the engine) gives the throttle a couple of meaty blips and Alan Lee walks over from the left and gives him a telling off by wagging his finger at him... Class ;)
I'm glad you got the 2nd start-up OK Rob as my Camcoder glitched for the first 30 secs of the 2nd start and I haven't go any film of it ;)
